For the fifth consecutive year, Eileen M. Hagerty was a co-organizer (with Catherine Lyons) of the MCLE’s annual School Law Conference. This year’s conference was held on May 2, 2013 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at MCLE, 10 Winter Place, Boston, and was also available by webcast. In addition to serving as co-chair of the Conference, Ms. Hagerty spoke on the “Education Law Update 2014” panel.

January 15, 2014

Joseph B. Green and Janine A. Solomon will be participating in a series of workshops taught by experienced lawyers and other professionals who are currently working in and shaping the field of special education law. This five week series on Fundamentals of Special Education will take place at Suffolk University Law School, 120 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, Thursdays, February 20, 27, March 13, 27, and April 3, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Janine A. Solomon will present at the Special Needs Advocacy Network (SPAN-MA) Two Day Advanced Advocacy Intensive with Attorney Sonja Kerr. This two-day session is designed to provide special education advocates with practical application training. Participants will review actual case records, determine case strategies from the IEP table through conflict resolution techniques and up to due process.

Eileen M. Hagerty spoke on “Remembering the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau: Stories from Alumni” at a luncheon held at Harvard Law School on November 9, 2013 as part of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. Ms. Hagerty is a former member and officer of the Bureau (1980-82), which is the oldest student-run, non-profit law firm in the country. Several hundred current and former Bureau members and guests attended the event.

Eileen Hagerty presented at a meeting of the Coalition to Defend Special Education on October 24, 2013. She will discuss “Bullying: What It Is and Isn’t, How to Respond to It, and Legal Implications.” Peter Raffalli, M.D., Director of the Bullying and Cyberbullying Prevention and Advocacy Collaborative at Boston Children's Hospital, also presented.

Eileen Hagerty presented at “Breaking Barriers: Women in Law Firms,” a free luncheon panel discussion held at MCLE on September 27, 2013 (http://www.mcle.org/). This was the first in a series of luncheon panel discussions inspired by Breaking Barriers: The Unfinished Story of Women Lawyers and Judges in Massachusetts (Margot Botsford, Patti B. Saris, and Barbara Berenson eds. 2012). Ms. Hagerty contributed to the book, which MCLE describes as “an unprecedented, unique account of Massachusetts women’s progress in the legal profession from 1882 to the present day.”
